Support Girls's Hygiene
Many Ugandan girls lose five days of school a month, due to their menstrual period. Without access to hygienic products, they may resort to using rags or even leaves to stop the flow. Needless to say, these things are not very effective, so to avoid the embarrassment of a leak, the girls stay home from school. Omiyo's children's program, called the Sparrow Fund, supplies washable pads and underwear to girls when they reach the age of menstruation, and our female staff member works to prepare them even before their period starts. Most of our girls are being raised without a mother, so this mentor-ship is important to them. $10 gives a year's supply of pads and underwear for one girl.
